The concept is a starting point, not a stencil

An inspiration image is useful when it clarifies the visual direction. The final design still needs to suit the body area, scale, visibility and amount of detail.

    Choose the subject

    Save the motif or feeling that matters, not every detail around it.

  2. 02

    Match the body area

    Forearms, shoulders, spines and sleeves each need different flow and spacing.

  3. 03

    Redraw it properly

    I change the size, the contrast and the amount of detail. Lines that sit close together on a screen run into each other once they shrink onto skin, so I open them out before I draw the stencil.
