Realism
The old colour tattoo sat across the middle of the forearm, so the astronaut suit had to do the covering work. I placed the darkest parts of the suit and space over those shapes, then kept the helmet and lighter panels open enough for the figure to read. Small stars and the constellation use the space above the astronaut without blacking out the whole forearm.
This took one three-hour session. The gallery shows the old tattoo under the stencil and the result at the end of the appointment. It proves what worked on this forearm, not what will work on every old tattoo. My Cover-Up assessment starts with clear photographs because the old pigment, available space and skin decide whether direct cover is sensible.
